An individual who contaminated candy with sleeping medication and provided them to children at a summer program in the area has admitted sexual crimes against two children aged between nine and ten.
Jon Ruben was detained after eight minors and an older person experienced illness at the facility in mid-summer.
The elderly man, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, confessed to a total of 17 charges when he appeared at Leicester Crown Court on the end of the week.
However, he denied one particular crime he was facing, which was against a nine-year-old child.
Ruben was kept in jail prior to a subsequent court date on November 28th.
'Sweet game'
The legal representative, presenting evidence, outlined the defendant's actions to the judicial body.
She stated his those affected were children from difficult backgrounds who were attending a summer camp which he ran.
Ruben conducted a "sweet game" with the children, the legal counsel stated, in which he would enter the sleeping quarters when they were settling down and ask them to ingest treats "as quickly as they can".
She informed the proceedings Ruben had engaged in this activity with the children "for many years", and minors had previously become sick the next day.
She stated Ruben had been able to explain this repeatedly as the minors being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepchild had concerns in summer 2025.
The prosecutor added: "In the summer" his stepchild had concerns about what was going on, justifiably.
"They decided to examine in the defendant's belongings."
The prosecutor said objects including baby oil, ointment and injection devices were discovered, and his stepchild alerted the authorities about his worries.
She explained the man continued to conduct the "treat game" with six boys that evening - July 26th - and they were everyone unwell the subsequent day.
"The police had not responded by that stage," she continued.
The police watchdog, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, had stated that it was reviewing law enforcement's management of the situation.
Mrs Prior stated the minors were having difficulty walking due to their sickness, so Ruben's stepson called the authorities once more.
She stated the defendant then engaged in the "candy game" in a room of five children.
